The Associate of Science (AS) in Accounting degree program at Las Vegas College prepares students with a comprehensive set of skills necessary to become employable in entry-level accounting clerk or bookkeeping positions in areas such as payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, tax and general bookkeeping. Students receive a strong introduction to modern Accounting theories and principles, and learn to analyze and classify financial data, journalize and post transactions, and prepare financial statements. Once the foundational principles are mastered, students learn to apply that theory to practical bookkeeping tasks using applications such as QuickBooks. Students in LVC’s AS in Accounting program become competent in accounting principles, computerized accounting, cost and managerial accounting, tax accounting, and general business. Software applications are incorporated to provide students the ability to be successful and competitive in the technology-driven fields of accounting and bookkeeping. Graduates will be competent in their understanding of foundational accounting principles, and will be able to examine the accounting process and industry practices, prepare and analyze financial statements, payroll records, tax forms, and various other accounting schedules and reports. LVC graduates will also be able to interpret accounting information from a managerial perspective, solve problems and make recommendations using decision making strategies, utilize accounting software and technology used in the workplace and will be capable of demonstrating general business knowledge and skills geared toward a professional work environment.

The AS in Accounting program is a 24 month, 96 quarter credit hour program, and upon completion of the program, graduates are prepared to sit for various industry certifications. LVC graduates will be qualified to test for certifications including Microsoft Office Specialist in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel; National Association of Certified Bookkeepers (NACPB) Bookkeeping Certification; NACPB’s Payroll Certification; and Intuit’s QuickBooks Certified User Certification.
